Which off-road-ready truck is more your style, the Chevy Silverado ZR2 or Ford F-150 Raptor? Our comparison guide is here to help you take a closer look at these rugged light-duty trucks.
Lowest Price: 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2
The all-new Chevy Silverado ZR2 starts at $67,600. For this price, you get all of the ZR2’s standard features, including its off-road-friendly performance gear. Should you decide to add any options, this price does have the potential to go up. The same goes for the Ford F-150 Raptor, which starts at $69,525.
Pure Power: 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor
The Raptor provides a little more power than the Chevy ZR2, compliments of its high-output 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 engine. It’s also specially designed for desert racing, with Fox racing shocks and a Baja drive mode. Of course, the Raptor’s four-wheel-drive system with low-range gearing also helps you scale mountains and tramp through muddy river banks.
2022 Ford Raptor specs include:
- Turbocharged 3.5L high-output EcoBoost V6 (450 horsepower, 510 lb-ft of torque)
- 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission with Progressive Range Select and paddle shifters
- Four-wheel drive
It might not be as powerful as the Raptor, but the Silverado ZR2 is an off-road-ready beast in its own right. Its 420-horsepower V6 engine and standard four-wheel drive help you crush it on the trail. And the automatic transmission includes paddle shifters, giving you better control over your performance, no matter where you are.
2022 Chevy ZR2 specs include:
- 6.2L EcoTex3 V8 engine (420 horsepower, 460 lb-ft of torque)
- 10-speed automatic transmission with Electronic Precision shift
- Four-wheel drive
Performance: 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2
When you’re in a tight spot, you want a truck that’s easy to maneuver. Compared to the Raptor, the ZR2 is much easier to handle. Back on the pavement, the Silverado ZR2 will also impress you with its relatively smooth ride, something you don’t often see in an off-road-ready vehicle.
The Raptor’s wider stance makes it a little tougher to handle on a tight trail. Otherwise, though, you’ll be very impressed with this F-150’s capabilities. In addition to swift acceleration, the Raptor comes standard with an array of trail-friendly tech features. For example, the Trail Control with Trail 1-Pedal Drive system acts as a low-speed cruise control that lets you focus on steering out of a difficult situation.
Modern Equipment: 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2
In addition to their rugged off-road gear and powerful engines, the F-150 Raptor and Silverado ZR2 are nicely stocked with modern amenities and rich creature comforts. For example, both trucks come standard with leather-trimmed seats and heated front seats. You also get an all-star lineup of infotainment features from each truck, including a touchscreen interface and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto features.
However, the ZR2 comes standard with a few features that are optional for the Raptor, including a wireless smartphone charging pad, heated rear seats, and a heated steering wheel.
Choose Your Desert Racer
There’s a lot to love about both the iconic F-150 Raptor and the all-new Silverado ZR2. However, the Silverado ZR2 effectively won us over with its extra-rugged styling, luxurious interior, and thrilling performance. Not to mention it gives you all of the above features at the best price.
